What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device when you visit them. They help websites remember things — like whether you're logged in, how you navigated the site, or what preferences you've set.
They're not programs. They can't run code or install anything. They're just little notes your browser keeps on a website's behalf.
Who We Are
Dweller IQ is a Chicago-focused landlord assistant platform. When we say "we," "us," or "our" in this policy, we're talking about Dweller IQ and the people running it.
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies we use, why we use them, and what you can do about it.
How We Use Cookies
We use cookies to:
- Keep you logged in while you use the Platform
- Understand how people use the site (so we can improve it)
- Remember your cookie consent choice so we don't badger you on every visit
- Detect and block spam bots on our contact and signup forms
- Understand how people use the site — but only if you opt in
We don't run ads, retargeting, or behavioral profiling. No Google Ads, no Meta Pixel, no third-party ad networks. Your data isn't sold and isn't used to follow you around the internet.
Types of Cookies We Use
Here's a plain-English breakdown of what's actually running on Dweller IQ — by name, not generic categories.
These three keep the Platform functional. You can't opt out of them — the site genuinely won't work without them.
- Memberstack — keeps you logged in and remembers your session. Set by
memberstack.comwhen you sign in. - Cloudflare Turnstile — invisible anti-spam check on our contact and signup forms. Runs only when you submit a form, and only to verify you're not a bot. Cloudflare's Privacy Addendum covers what they collect.
- Your consent choice — your pick from the cookie banner (
diqConsent) is stored in your browser's localStorage so we don't show you the banner again. This one stays on your device only — we don't see it.
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people visit, how long they stay, and where they drop off. It helps us decide what to improve.
We run GA4 with Google Consent Mode v2, which means:
- By default, Google receives an anonymized "cookieless ping" only — no identifiers, no behavior tracking.
- If you click Accept All in the cookie banner, full analytics turn on.
- If you click Essential Only or Reject All, analytics stay off permanently for your browser.
We don't use Google Analytics for ad targeting, audience building, or syncing with ad accounts.
We want to be clear about this because most SaaS sites do the opposite:
- No Google Ads / Google Tag Manager
- No Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel
- No retargeting or behavioral ad platforms
- No third-party data brokers
- No selling, renting, or sharing your data with advertisers
If we ever add anything that goes beyond GA4, we'll update this page and the cookie banner first — and treat your existing consent as the source of truth.
Cookie Duration
Cookies either expire when you close your browser (session cookies) or stay on your device for a set period (persistent cookies).
- Memberstack session — persistent, typically up to 30 days or until you log out
- Cloudflare Turnstile — session-only, gone when you close the tab
- Your consent choice (
diqConsentin localStorage) — persistent until you clear your browser data or use the "Cookie settings" option to change it - Google Analytics 4 — only sets cookies if you opt in; durations follow Google's GA4 cookie schedule (default ~2 years for
_ga, ~24 hours for_ga_*session)
Your Choices and How to Opt Out
You're not stuck with cookies you don't want. Two ways to push back:
On your first visit, you'll see a banner at the bottom of the page with three buttons:
- Accept All — turns on Google Analytics. Lets us see what content is working.
- Essential Only — only the cookies we genuinely need (login, anti-spam, your own consent choice). Analytics stays off.
- Reject All — same effect as Essential today; we record it separately so if we ever add anything beyond analytics, this choice stays the strictest setting.
Your choice is stored in your browser's localStorage as diqConsent. To change your mind: clear your site data in your browser, or — once we add the link to the footer — click "Cookie settings."
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies entirely. Look under Privacy or Security settings in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Heads up: blocking all cookies will break parts of the Platform that genuinely need them (login, anti-spam).
If you've already opted out via the banner and still want the extra layer, Google offers a browser add-on that blocks GA across every site: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
Do We Honor "Do Not Track" Signals?
Functionally, yes — by default. Here's how:
We start every visit with all tracking denied via Google Consent Mode v2. Analytics, advertising signals, all of it — off. We only turn analytics on if you explicitly click Accept All in the banner.
That means if you've never seen our banner — or if you closed the tab without picking — no tracking has happened. We don't need to read the browser's DNT header because the default state is already "no tracking."
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy if we add new tools, change providers, or the law requires it. When we do:
- We'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
- Continued use of the Platform after changes means you're okay with them
